Two Scottdale brothers are accused of robbing a pizza delivery driver who brought a pie to a now vacant home where the suspects’ family lived, according to court documents.
Authorities said they found the pizza box in a van that one of the suspects was driving in the Scottdale and Everson areas. Jeremy Edward Szwed, 34, and Terry Glenn Szwed, 23, are charged with robbery, conspiracy, aggravated assault and related offences.
State Troopers worked with Everson police on Thursday after an employee of JJ’s Pizza in Scottdale reported delivering a pizza one mile from a house on Maple Street in Everson, Co. Fayette at 8:30 p.m. When the driver arrived with the pie, two men were standing. on the porch and one of them held a knife to his throat and demanded money, according to court documents.
The driver told police he handed over $200. Authorities said the Szwed family previously lived there. The suspects used a phone number belonging to a known associate to place the order, according to police. The Szwed brothers were identified as potential suspects based on the description provided by the driver.
Later that evening, police said they spotted Terry Szwed and found the pizza box and a cell phone in the van he was driving. The delivery driver identified Terry Szwed as the man holding a knife to his throat and Jeremy Szwed as the other suspect, according to court documents.
Police said the phone found in the truck matched the number used to place the pizza order. Both suspects were being held in Fayette County Jail on $50,000 bail each.
Preliminary hearings are set for Thursday.
